Reading back from 2020 diary. Trails off on about April 19 but I can just about make out some notes…
January
New cats! Trips to theatre and opera. Boy turns 15. Huge family KFC order. Cats explore bags.
February
Trips to Tate Modern and Nat Gall. Cats go outside. Move father-in-law to London care home – two visits in one week! Plague in China.
March
Tate night with Debs. Plague is looming. Quick road-trip to Dad. Schools close, care home visits stop, lockdown. John announces family toilet roll competition. Learn Zoom.
April
Heath walks. Order beer online, find local stash of flour, also eggs. Angle computer so background always looks lovely. Bake sister birthday cupcakes, deliver on Heath. Attend nine networking meetings.
May
Heath walks. Attend 15 networking meetings. Learn how to mute. Wave at Dad in tiny frame. First close Covid death. Lose ability to read. Notice amazing colours in carpet. Patio is my world. Trim fringe.
June
Heath walks. Baking for Britain. Cats disappear for days. Birthday doorstep visits. John wins toilet roll contest. Boy ventures outside. Carpet is my world. I only speak Zoom. Trim fringe.
July
Out out! Cafes. Family funeral. Teen bereavement. Haircut.
August
Heath walks. Build patio. Rebuild patio. Trips to Surrey, Devon and Cornwall. Cats return.
Sep
Heath walks. School resumes, boy in mourning. Dad turns 80, rule of six, we are six, book restaurant.
Oct
Heath walks. Birthday coffee on pavement for John. Pick up a book. Fireworks for five weeks. Actual work meeting in cafe. Eat all the Halloween sweets.
Nov
Heath seems quite small. Haircut. Out with the orange. Is it out with the orange? Yes, out with the orange. Muted virtual fireworks. Lockdown two. Back to Zoom.
Dec
Tier 3: cancel train tickets. Tier 4: cancel Christmas. Eat all the food. Covid comes to the care home. Try jogging on ice. Try salted caramel vodka on ice. Lie down and wait for 2021.
Dear 2021, please ring the top bell and leave package in the garden if we’re out.
